I needed another dock so I could play my Switch on a monitor in my bedroom without having to dismantle the docking station hooked up to the TV in the living room, and wanted something portable that would transport easily for traveling. This little nugget works perfectly. I plug my Switch into the included USB cable, it outputs to my monitor via HDMI, I pick up a controller and play. Plus, it's so small that it leaves plenty of space for other peripherals in my usual carrying/travel case—don't forget, you'll still need an HDMI cable and a USB Type-C cable in your bag to hook everything up at your destination.Build quality is good; the plastic used for the housing is brightly colored and feels durable, and the fit and finish are great. Another positive is there aren't any annoyingly bright blue LEDs adding light to my room at night; just a single green status LED at a reasonable, appropriate brightness (i.e., not a flashlight).Those familiar with the Switch's hardware will know there's not much special about the official docking station. In fact, you can buy all kinds of "hub" and "dock" devices that will connect to a USB-C port and provide charging, an HDMI output, and a USB input. This is quite clearly just a cleverly repackaged and more compact version of those devices, but it IS clever. Naturally, I tried connecting my Steam Deck and can confirm it works flawlessly as a charger and HDMI output for that as well.Overall, this is a really great unit that somehow manages to improve on the original dock at a better price. I might even end up buying a second one to keep in my Steam Deck's travel case.
