Adapters like this are preferable to the "male usb-c" type adapters because the cable can be as long as your USB-C cable. Also the adapters are generally smaller and lighter for travel. Same approach can be used for "female HDMI" and "female RJ45" adapters. I'm yet to find "female usb-c to VGA". Some USB-C cables are power only. Others max at less than 10 gig data. To do video you need more than 10 gig of data.Power isn't required for the cable to work, but it's nice if you're going to use this thing with your phone.
